by John Broome

151 pages; quality trade paperback (softcover); catalogue #08-0609; ISBN 1-4251-7821-9; US$15.48, C$15.48, EUR10.57, £7.99

It*s 1990, and in Gaynsford, Boyzie strives desperately to get his life back on track, whilst three visually impaired men travel the country, promoting their ambitious plan to conquer Kilimanjaro.

About the Book

Climbing Kilimanjaro is a follow up to the Boyzie Trilogy. Boyzie, on leaving hospital is intent on starting a new life. He obtains work as a counsellor at his old venue , The Family Support Centre on Bread St and moves in with his mate Andy. But all does not go according to plan and his hopes are soon dashed though he remains determined to reach the "top of his Kilimanjaro".

He reads about three mates with whom he went to college and the fact that they are endeavouring to raise a large amount of money for the eradication of River Blindness in Africa. This is inspiring and Boyzie, undaunted by a sequence of events which culminate in Andys eventual decease, endeavours to remain positive, keeping his mind on the goal he wishes to obtain i.e. to shape a completely new life for himself — to reach the top of his own fictitious mountain.
