Ravenscroft is Book One of a trilogy, concerning a young man, Thomas Pitworth, and a quest after knowledge that is rooted in a number of disturbing dreams. Ravenscroft is where he must go – but no one seems to know where it is. Until, quite by chance, he meets a small group of travelers who offer to help him find it.

Thus begins a high adventure, in which Thomas and his compatriots are befriended by a wizard, fight creatures from another plane of existence, meet and learn about a diversity of creatures, such as gnomes and trolls, and discover that he is “the One of Prophecy” -- the only one who can either save or damn the land.

All of this is met with skepticism, and questions about his purpose in life. A number of twists and turns and confrontations with himself and his adversaries ultimately leads Thomas to knowledge – but not necessarily what he originally sought.

Ravenscroft will remind readers of Tolkien, both in the battle between Good and Evil, and in the intricate plotting that asks the reader to get inside the psychology concerning the central character and the story.

About the Author

David Kier is a long-time college history professor, whose fantasy writings emphasize pastoral humanism. Much of that is influenced by the works of the late Clifford D. Simak, whom the author h as been reading for nearly half a century. Kier's first fantasy novel, Jody, was published in 2007 and received critical praise.

Intended for a wide readership – from teens to graybeards – Ravenscroft is the first book in a projected trilogy. The author believes that now, more than ever before, the world needs fantasies that encourage us to understand ourselves, and the world around us.
