This report is Volume 1 in a series of documents providing a content reference for the specification and transfer of geomatics data. In the broad field of geomatics, one of the limiting factors to the wide use of Geographic Information Systems has been the lack of widely applicable data specifications. This current work and its companion volumes describe set specifications appropriate for geomatics data management and data sharing.

The content series defines the features and attributes, as related to topographic data, cadastral data, forestry data, soils data, and a variety of other themes.

This Volume relates directly to the 1:2 000 000 product. The 1:2 000 000 data for the province is currently available from the Provincial Government in hard copy lithograph and digital (MOEP) format. Unlike the Terrain Resource Information Management (TRIM) product which involves direct data compilation, the 1:2 000 000 data has been produced by scanning various lithographic layers of the published paper map series. In order to provide the 1:2 000 000 product as part of the Provincial Digital Atlas, the Branch has developed standards and specifications for the structuring of this data. Contractors, Provincial Government Ministries and other agencies can obtain copies of these specifications from Surveys and Resource Mapping Branch, Ministry of Environment, Lands and Parks.
