About the Book

George Spendley describes himself as a hopeless romantic. Inspired by writers such as John Denver, Spendley writes of love, romance, nature, wisdom, even love on the internet in a humorous "country love song" style crying out to be set to music.

For The Dreamers is exactly that. Anyone who has been told they are a dreamer will find a kindred spirit in Spendley. His poetry touches the hearts of everyone who has fallen in and out of love; those who appreciate the simple pleasures in life, be it romance or nature; and those who seek the wisdom of what life has to offer, in bright days as well as dark times. If you enjoy the lyrics of John Denver, Joe Henry, Gordon Lightfoot, or Paul Williams, you will enjoy the poetry of George Spendley.

About the Author

Born in Albuquerque, New Mexico in December, 1949, George Spendley was raised in the desert, but his heart always longed for the mountains. He began writing poetry when he was 13 years old, but with very few exceptions, never shared his poetry with anyone until 1998. In 1969, he heard a song written by John Denver. "Rhymes and Reasons" was the approval message Spendley needed to hear to know that it was acceptable for a man to write about the kind of emotions he felt.

Once a firefighter, Spendley was forced to leave his profession after a career-ending injury on the job. Now living near Steamboat Springs, Colorado with his wife, MaryAnn, and one-year-old daughter Annie Noelle, Spendley runs his 27-acre horse ranch and continues to write poetry inspired by the style of other poets such as Joe Henry, Gordon Lightfoot and Paul Williams.

Turn To Me

When darkness overshadows
all your hopes and all your dreams,
when there's no one close to hold you
in the light of soft moonbeams,
when the music has stopped playing
but the song stays in your heart,
turn to me for love and comfort
with the promise we won't part.

from "Love-light" (for John Denver)

"We thought our world would stay the same,
we knew there'd be next year.
We never gave it any thought,
that day would be so near.

The news spread fast as teardrops fell
and hearts broke one by one.
We sat in silent disbelief,
it seemed his life was done."
