The David Nathan Meyerson Fiction Prize 

Entries for the David Nathan Meyerson Fiction Prize, an award that is being given in honor of the therapist and inspiring writer, are now being accepted. Eligible authors must not have published any book of fiction, novel, or any collection of stories. In addition, submissions must not be longer than 8,000 words. The entry fee has been pegged at $250, with the winner standing to win $1,000 and publication in the Southwest Review.

Blue Collar Review Working People’s Poetry Contest 

Submissions are now being accepted for the Blue Collar Review Working People’s Poetry Contest. The Blue Collar Review is a quarterly journal of poetry and prose with a mission to expand and promote a progressive working-class vision of culture that inspires people to move forward as a class. Entry fee is set at $15 per entry with the winner receiving $100 and a year’s subscription to the Blue Collar Review.

  The Inaugural Loraine Williams Poetry Prize 

Authors and writers alike are being encouraged to join the first annual Loraine Williams Poetry Prize, a competition wherein $1,000 is at stake for the winning poem, as well as publication in the Georgia Review. Submissions must be written in English and never published before on any medium. Current subscribers can join free of charge while non-subscribers can begin a subscription at the time of entry for just $35 for four issues. They can also pay an entry fee of $15.

New York Book Festival 

The 2013 New York Book Festival is now accepting entries in English, Spanish, German, French or Italian that have been published on or after January 1, 2009. A panel of judges will determine the winners based on the storytelling ability of the author and the potential of the work to win wider recognition. The grand prize for the 2013 New York Book Festival Author of the Year is $1,500 and a flight to New York for the awarding ceremony.

The Beach Book Festival 

The 2013 Beach Book Festival has issued a call for entries to its annual program spotlighting the hottest reads of the upcoming summer season. Submitted works are judged for general excellence as well as the potential of the work to be an engaging beach read this summer season. The winning entry will receive $1,500 cash, a flight to New York for the awards program, and a two-week public relations campaign proclaiming their beach-read victory.

Creative Nonfiction “The Human Face of Sustainability” Essay Writing Contest 

Creative Nonfiction and Arizona State University’s Global Institute of Sustainability Stories are looking for stories that illuminate the human side of environmental, economic, ethical, and social challenges related to the state of the planet. The best entry stands to win the $10,000 Walton Sustainability Solutions Best Creative Nonfiction Essay Award. The winner will also be invited to the launch event that will be hosted by Arizona State University’s Global Institute of Sustainability.

The Dylan Thomas Prize  

Considered to be the largest literary prize for writers aged under 30 years old, a prize of £30,000 (approximately $45,880) will be given to the author of the book of poetry or fiction that displays “creative, imaginative, and innovative use of the English language.” There is no entry fee and interested parties may submit five (5) copies of their book which has been published between June 1, 2012 and May 31, 2013, by May 31.

New England Poetry Club Daniel Varoujan Award 

Stand to win a cash prize of $1,000 in the poetry contest named in honor of Daniel Varoujan, an Armenian poet who met his demise during the genocide in Turkey in 1915. Submit your poem along with a $10 entry fee.

Oberlin College Press FIELD Poetry Prize 

Entries are now being accepted for the FIELD Poetry Prize, a competition that’s offering a prize of $1,000 for the most worthy poetry collection. Submit a manuscript consisting of 50 to 80 pages along with a $28 entry fee, which includes a free subscription to FIELD: Contemporary Poetry and Poetics, during the month of May.

River Styx International Poetry Contest 

A cash prize of $1,500 and publication in the literary and arts magazine, The River Styx, awaits the winner of the River Styx International Poetry Contest. You may submit up to three poems totaling not more than 14 pages along with an entry fee of $20 which includes a subscription to the aforementioned magazine by May 31. The entries will be judged by American poet and educator, Terrance Hayes.
