Over the millennia the H'prils, an ancient society, have lived in hiding as they served as the caretakers for the earth. Only recently have these minute men and women chosen to reveal themselves to those who long to see the earth return to its pristine state. From the remote, unspoiled regions of Gevor County, the H'prils have watched with great concern as we continue in our struggle to overcome the increasing burden that we have finally realized we are placing on nature. To offer encouragement they have chosen to come forth to offer us the benefit of their experience and some hope that we can overcome our present problems and once more begin to enjoy the natural treasures that surround us. As the move among us, in their own mysterious way, the H'prils not only serve to remind us that we have a responsibility to our home, but also that the beauty of nature has its own rewards for us in the form of tranquility.

Prior to his arrival in Jackson Center, PA, Les had lived and travelled throughout the country, from seashore communities to rural villages giving a diverse range to his art. As a carver his work has been commissioned and displayed in the galleries of Branson, MO, Seattle, Wa., Manchester, Vt., Houston, Tx. and museums across the country while entries in both National and International competitions continue to win top honors in their categories. It was in 1991, as he created that small figurine as a gift to his parents, that the idea for the H'prils originated. As the figurine began to take shape a close friend with an interest in writing stopped in the shop. Together, they discussed the figure and a brief story emerged; growing as the carving neared completion. As a gift, the figurine represented a tribute to the appreciation of nature instilled by his parents. Initially only a brief description on the H'prils was envisioned but the idea flourished and grew. As the story grew, so too did the society. New characters bearing the personalities of family and friends were created in prose an wood before their transfer to clay and finally Hidrastone. Stephen Ramsay, Les's brother and noted artist, worked side by side with artist and writer creating illustrations which would accompany the story of the H'prils.
