Gary Sheets.
The murders launched an investigation that uncovered a forgery scheme designed to corrupt the early history of the Mormon Church, cheat the government and undermine the entire documents industry. It also identified a forger so prolific his work is still being discovered today.

Joseph Tippetts (Joe) Meier, began his writing career at the tail end of a highly successful broadcast career that took him from Salt Lake City to San Francisco to Dallas and ultimately, CBS in New York City.
A broadcast performer, (announcer, singer, actor, narrator) turned broadcast executive, Joe decided his heart was really in the creative arena and took early retirement to pursue a writing career. His efforts over the past decade have produced an impressive, (if somewhat eclectic) body of work. His books include several "works for hire," including "Grizzly Adams and the Siege of Treasure Mountain," "Miracles and Other Wonders," "Ancient Revelations of the Bible," and "Ancient Mysteries of the World." He also co-authored, "The Paranormal Resource Book," Published by Lowell House and "UFO," published by Contemporary Books.
But books are only a small part of his remarkable output. The past 2 years Joe has been lead writer and story editor on the PAX-TV series, "Encounters With The Unexplained," fifty-two, prime time, one hour shows starring Jerry Orbach. He also worked on the CBS television "Miracles and Other Wonders," (upon which the book was based). He has also written two GOLD Award screen plays "The Real Story of Santa Claus," and "Two For the Show," a contemporary romantic comedy.
Mr. Meier has three additional unpublished manuscripts that he's looking forward to making available here on this web site. Up next will be, "Euchalata James," an historical western novel that explores a young boy's emergence into manhood as a people, driven by persecution and faith, conquered a wilderness and tamed the land.
And he isn't through yet. A participant an pioneer in the robust growth of the American broadcast media, Joe is already assembling and collating the data for his next book, "The Great American Media Sellout." Asked how long he intends to keep on writing he says simply, "as long as my fingers can find the letters on the keyboard."
