After receiving his medical degree in 1946, Charles Harris, MD interned at the Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn, trained in pathology at Goldwater Memorial Hospital and New York Beth Israel before pursuing a career in cancer research at the Fels Research Institute affiliated with Temple medical school, Philadelphia. Except for serving as captain in the Army Chemical Corps during the Korean conflict he remained at Fels until 1960. After an additional decade as research associate and clinical internist at the Philadelphia Geriatric Institute, he entered the practice of medicine until retirement in 1995. He has contributed numerous papers to the medical literature, busied himself in the politics of medicine while serving as president of the Ocean County Medical Society, and over the span of twenty years, wrote a weekly column covering a variety of subjects for the Ocean County Observer. At present he feels a special affinity for retirement because it has given him time to think.
