About the Book

Ogirisi:A New Journal of African Studies is a multidisciplinary journal devoted to the creation of a new African global consciousness by a systematic organization and methodological articulation of thoughts and ideas on African thought and culture, on African problems and prospects, on African being, world and existence in our globalizing era. The three numbers of volume two serve a variety of choice articles that touch on virtually every aspect of the African reality. From African Worldview to the Rhetorics of Eurocentrism: From African Folklore to African Music, from language endangerment to the problem of African refugees, from African communalist metaphysical anthropology to post modern tendencies in Nigerian art, the first number seeks to break the chains of myopia on African issues. From a study of traditional practices to globalization and developmentalism from democratic disorder to the problems of leadership from the African family system, to the symbol of kolanut and the Afa ugili symbolism of Aka philosophy, the second number opens to sight the rich world of African tradition and philosophy. And from the study of life in the African university to the concept of man in Hausa thought, from the significance of time across traditions to the enduring problems of Atlantic slave trade, from the problem of teaching English in African schools to the rites of courtship and marriage in Africa, from the African concept of the human person to the African logic of symbolismic deposition and the abuse of the Igbo child through offensive language, number three invites the citizen of the contemporary world into the open arms and heart of Africa.
