About the Book

"Eternal not Immortal-Prayers, poems and promises for the journey of life", Is a joint collaboration of two authors who have yet to meet! Authors Robert B. Moreland and Karen M. Miner came to know each other through an internet poetry group. While their poetry was distinctly their own, each felt a kindred spirit at work. Through Karen's poems Bob discovered she had breast cancer. Through Bob's poems Karen discovered he had confronted very real "mortal" tests of his own. As Karen pondered her mortality through poetry, Bob was determined to not let her "published" legacy be her obituary. This began a spiritual and poetic journey. Together in spirit, these authors, guided by the elusive, capricious muse, collaborated to reach out to each of you who have been buffeted by life's storms. We believe that God's loving and all powerful hand is always upon us. It is with His grace and wisdom that every person traverses the path of mortal life to arrive triumphantly to dine at the banquet and dance in the fields of life eternal!

In this moving collection of over 110 poems, the authors write about things familiar to each of us. A special friend, a favorite spot, a lost loved one, an unexpected challenge. They write also about love, marriage and fellowship-and ultimately about mortality and eternity. It is with great hope that they offer this work to all who seek comfort. You will find opportunities to explore the healing power of faith. You will be reminded throughout that while none of us is immortal-in Christ's love we all have the awesome opportunity to be eternal! Rest awhile with these words! Feel the emotions of life! Embrace for a moment the miracle of faith!

About the Author

Karen M. Miner was born in Rochester, New York, the only daughter of John and Jayne Quackenbush. They worked diligently to provide their three children the true treasures of life. Such treasures are not reflected in the gross national product. We were blessed to learn early the value of family and faith, honesty and perseverance, humility and God's will. It is my theory that one day poetry will be discovered on some portion of our DNA. Throughout my life, in times of sorrow or bliss, death or birth, triumph or defeat--I have found solace and healing in verse and rhyme. My vocation is nursing (RN); through this profession I have met inspiring angels. Many taught me how to live; some shared with me the last moments of their mortality...an inspiring glimpse of God's Grace. It is with great hope and strong faith, that Bob and I offer our work to you.

Robert (Bob) B. Moreland was born in Shreveport, Louisiana. Son of a Methodist minister and the older of two brothers, he lived throughout the state of Louisiana. He attended Southeastern Louisiana University, majoring in chemistry. Later he did graduate work at the University of Tennessee, Memphis at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, earning a doctorate in biochemistry. He did postgraduate work at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute and Harvard Medical School before joining the faculties of Urology and Physiology at Boston University School of Medicine. Since late 1999, he has been working in pharmaceutical research for a major health products company outside Chicago. That is not who he is, however. After knowing about God his whole life, he began a walk with Christ and is still learning of the romance.
