The Great Chicken Heist

On a lazy grey day, two clever brothers set out to have the best cook out of their lives. In this fictionalized version of a true-life adventure, Art and Ralph embark on a chicken heist, constantly on the lookout for pesky farmers. After a perfect hunt, their triumphant hearts are deflated when Farmer and Mrs. Lucky turn up at the boys' home. When their secret has been discovered they must pay the price. And they do - but not without first getting a receipt.

The Great Chicken Heist is the introductory story in a series of adventures undertaken by five energetic and enterprising siblings on the Alberta Coal Branch in the 1940's and 50's.

Along with playing library and office, the author, Ramona Reynolds, has been telling tall tales since she was a child. Although she no longer charges her friends fines when they are late in returning her books, Ramona still shares her love of reading and writing with her husband, two cheeky children, and their big dog in Victoria, British Columbia.
