About the Book

Beyond the Pain…Memoirs of an Abused Child, is a semiautobiographical novel that chronicles the childhood of Ben Fields, a precocious, highly spirited boy whose father was a serial physical abuser. This novel also exemplifies the power of prayer!

At a very young age, while being beaten by his father, Ben seeks guidance from God, and prays for assistanace in alleviating the pain he was experiencing. His prayers seem to have been answered, as he learns to look beyond the pain to more pleasant times in order to dimninish his suffuring.

As Ben enters the first grade at Catholic school, he expects that his time spent there will offer him a respite from his abusive treatment at home. However, he quickly learns that the nuns who teach at shcool are capable, and all too willing, to deliver their own brand of malevolent treatment. He later discovers that the priests from the church adjacent to his school are anything but the venerated pillars of Christianity that most peoople consider them to be. To Ben, it seemed as if everywhere he truned, people were trying to break his spirit. However, Ben's zest for life, combined with his indomitable spiret, was regularly reinforccced by the parade of remarkable people in his life.

Through all the adversity that Ben encountered, he was able to use his wit and wisdom along with the lessons he learned; eventually thriving in this world of uncertainty.

About the Author

The author of Beyond the Pain...Memoirs of an Abused child, Neal Fisher, was born in 1947. He was raised in Oak Cliff area of Dallas, Texas. At age thirteen he and his familhy moved to Abilene, Texas. At age sixteen, Fisher and his family, moved to Fontainebleau, France, where her attended Paris American High School. And, at age seventeen, he aand his mother returned to Dallas, Texas. In 1965 Fisher graduated from South Oak Cliff High School in Dallas, Texas.

After graduating from high school, fisher joined the US Army, and later joined an infantry unit in Mainz, Germany. While in German, he attended parachutist training, at Wiesbaden Air Force Base. After spending a year in Germany, Fisher volunteered for combat infantry duty in Vietnam. In December of 1967, Fisher arrived in Vietnam, was assigned to the 101st Airborne Division, and was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. He spent one year in Vietnam, experiencing combat first-hand. After returning from vietnam, Fisher moved to Ft. Worth Texas, where he attended Texas Christian University. Later he moved to Denton, Texas, where he attended North Texas State University. Fisher received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Journalism, from NTSU in 1973.

After leaving college, Fisher worked for a number of newspapers in Texas. In 1998, Fisher retired and began writing books.
