About the Author

Born into a humble home in Hawaii to Filipino parents, Adrian documents his life with three disabilities—cerebral palsy, alcoholism, and depression. He struggled mightily with thoughts of suicide while trying to grow up in an atmosphere of misunderstanding, misinformation, and mistakes. He struggled to get an education and conduct himself in some semblance of normalcy as a kid. He shares with us his trial and errors, resources available to him, and resources not available to him. He recounts the losses he suffered from family members’ deaths, his older brothers and sisters leaving home, jobs gained and jobs lost, and friends. His journey is poignantly portrayed as he struggles with the issues of his life. English is his third language and makes for delightful reading. As a young adult, he is finally referred to AA, and that makes all the difference. AA literally saves his life with the philosophy that there is a power greater than Adrian. That faith turned the alcoholism around and the resultant depression. He shares the help he received from mortals as well, including Bill W. He explains well the effect AA had on him. His desire is that what he has suffered will help someone else.
