The Magic Christmas Train

It was Christmas Eve. Len was upstairs lying in bed, tucked under the covers. He couldn’t sleep. Len was sad and troubled. He had not been able to see Santa and tell him what he wanted for Christmas. Len’s mother and dad were not at home. They had gone to Uncle Peter’s house because he was sick and Aunt Harriet wanted someone to be there for a few days. Len knew that things would be better on Christmas Day because his parents has phoned to say that they would be back home by then. “I sure wish I could have seen Santa.” said Len to himself. Staying home with cousin Dallas was no fun either. Dallas was older than Len so he did not like the same food, television shows, or games. Dallas was not yet old enough to drive a car so they just had to stay at home. Len was not able to go to the city shopping mall where Santa was going to be asking children what they wanted for Christmas. Len threw back the bed covers and went to look out of his bedroom winder. The winter snow covered everything with a white blanket. The sky was clear and there were no clouds. The stars and the moon were shining brightly. Len could see the railway station. The old steam locomotive and passenger cars were there. The train did not run anymore, it was just left sitting on a few rails when the railroad company shut down many years ago. “I sure wish that train still worked,” said Len.
