In the dark depths of the oceans glides the tale
Of Hyperoodon, the recalcitrant whale.
He was a giant of immeasurable strength
Who frightened all things with his forty-foot length.
This giant young scamp thought it ancient, absurd
That no one should question the rules of the herd.
It was not his custom to follow the pack
Or to linger around during an attack.
He was not the type to comfort the dying,
Or to stay by their side crying and sighing.
No, he would not heed the elders, or obey
Their ridiculous rules obtained from hearsay.
Hyperoodon was a free-flowing spirit;
A charming symbol of power and merit.
Needless to say, he won the admiration
Of all the young whales in his generation.
