About the Book

The time: the year 4066. Out on the forty-seventh frontier the New Carthaginian Corsairs have plundered another imperial starliner; a not unusual Occurence. However, this particular liner had been carrying the Emperor's eight-year-old grandson, the Emperor-Select. When their lifeboat is forced to make a crash landing on a comparatively uncharted, hostile planet, the Select's nanny and her escort attempt to hide him; to keep him from the clutches of the brutal Corsairs until help can arrive. One man, Major Beauwulf-Ben-Gavilan of the elite Imperial Marshal brigade, is sent to rescue the Emperor-Select. What awaits Gavilan on SCARAB-4 is something that could not have been foreseen; something both wonderful and terrible; a thing that simultaneously binds together and puts asunder all of the religious and scientific philosophies of history...

Reviews

4 stars from Scribes World

"The starship carrying the Emperor's grandson, the very heir to the throne, is attacked by Corsairs on the way back home through treachery and intrigue. The lifeboat he is on, however, escapes due to the daring courage of his chief bodyguard and protector. Having survived the crash landing on Scarab-4 they must try to survive on a hostile world wherein danger lurks in every passing shadow. Hiding from the Corsairs who are seeking them and waiting, hoping, for that rescue mission which they know will be coming from the Emperor. Beauwulf-Ben-Gavilan, AKA the wolf, a specially trained Marshall, is given the task of either rescuing the Emperor's grandson, or making sure he does not fall into the hands of the Corsairs. But what he finds on Scarab-4 is much more than he, or anyone else, could have dreamed of.

I am one of those people who like to read so they can relax to go to sleep. That is one thing you do not want to do with SCARAB-4. When you sit down to read this one you want plenty of time because you are not going to want to put it down. Mr. Hawkins blends many threads through this story bringing all the characters together for a climax that will leave you wanting more. This is a must read for anyone who likes good old fashioned science fiction and warrants a full four star rating."
