About the Book

Christmas Magic! Miracles too! Merry Christmas to You! And You! And You!!!!!!! is a lyrical narrative. It's a story about the author's Christmases in the 1950s and 60s. Its whimsical excitement hopes to reach deep inside the hearts of an audience who values faith-filled family lives, traditions, as well as the encouragement of creativity and the freedom to play. The story whisks the audience into the movement, minds, and feelings of a small town family of six children, their parents, friends, relatives and neighbors. The joy of the Christmas parade that was held the day after Thanksgiving immediately comes to life! The reader will be enveloped by the anticipations, dreams, wishes and fun of tittering happy souls! The children are posed in the varied settings of gentle, rapture-filled, happy and quiet times. It continues to unveil the activities and anticipation of children throughout the season of Advent, and the traditions that were developed in preparation for Christmas. The stirring about of busy, busy children comes alive within the covers of the book!

The inspiration for the book was the author's great appreciation and love for her parents. Their endless encouragement, teaching self-entertainment, and being there heart, mind, body and spirit without complaint was unending. Money or the lack of it was never discussed. They were forgiving of mistakes, and were assuring of their love. Their arguments were private. Looking for the light after the darkness and a sense of humor was crystal clear! Life was not perfect, nor was it easy. However, the perfect times that were afforded by them are still alive and thrilling in the mind and heart of the author.

The author wishes to lend her happiness to others, or even inspire future generations to bring forth this same joy to children infinitely!

Beth Lancaster Cambron, the illustrator, is the second cousin of Sugar. Beth is a teacher at West Marion Elementary in Loretto, Kentucky. Her hobby is art. She plans to further her education in the field of art. Beth was asked by Sugar to bring the imagery of the narrative to life through acrylic paintings. She was asked to do this because of her enthusiasm for art, children and children's literature. By doing this project, Beth represents the Lancaster side of the family.

A CD with narration of the story is included with the book.

About the Author

Virginia, known as "Sugar" to friends, family and acquaintances, has lived in the same small town of Lebanon, Kentucky throughout her lifetime. She attended St. Augustine Grade School (where she presently teaches), and in 1970 graduated from St. Augustine High School. Sugar received an Associate of Arts Degree at St. Catharine College, her Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education at Campbellsville University, and her Master's Degree in Education from Western Kentucky University. She also holds a Masters in Catechisis. Her loves are family, faith, friends, the richness and awe of nature, enriching the lives of children through literature, storytelling, music, drama, writing, and character development.

In 1988, Sugar received the Marion County Outstanding Educator of the Year Award. Her community's Business and Professional Women's Club awarded Sugar with The 2001 Woman of Achievement Award. She was the recipient of the Fr. Joseph McGee Outstanding Educator Award, made possible by the Bishop Spalding Knights of Columbus in the Louisville Diocese in 2002.

Sugar believes that anything that she has done right is through the Grace of God. She knows that the love and support of her parents, family, church, friends, colleagues, and students have been her inspiration in all endeavors encountered; the backbone of her success.

A deep gratitude to those whom have with sincerity led her across new thresholds with dignity, believed in her, and have seen her through good and bad times throughout her lifetime is infinitely held within her heart. They are her courage in seeking to encounter new wholesome experiences. She will always continue to absorb the happy moments, write, sing and breathe in the innocent gifts of life.
