About the Book

I decided to write this book to share my life story with my children, an endeavour that has taken me one year to complete. I have told my story as accurately as possible. The circumstances and emotional hardships I have experienced are miserably comparable to that of many orphans around the globe. I would hope that the readers could learn about enduring circumstances and depression that I had faced during my childhood with my single mother and siblings. In some ways, someone else with the same understanding may recognize and remember my story in a different way. In other ways, the story is mine and for that I ask forgiveness. Read, learn and enjoy!

About the Author

Chagai Chol Lual was born in 1972 and grew up in a rural village in Southern Sudan. In June 1987, Chagai was forced to flee his ancestral village during the bloody civil war in Southern Sudan. He was one of thousands of Lost Boys of Sudan who fled on foot to Ethiopia to avoid becoming child solidiers or being killed. After five years in the refugee camp in Ethiopia, he was expelled back to the war zone in Southern Sudan along with countless Sudanese refugees by the Ethiopian rebels in 1991. Eventually, Mr. Chagai Lual came to Canada in 2003. He lives in Vancouver in Canada with his wife and three children. Mr. Chagai Lual is the founder and Executive Director of Padang Lutheran Christian Relief, an organization he had established in 2005 with the goal to provide relief to the most destitute of the returned refugees in Southern Sudan.
