About the Book

Kimberly McMillan like any other teenager was enjoying life and being young but, the sudden death of her father causes her life to spiral out of control. She is rescued and falls in love with Fredrick Addison hoping he will fill the whole in her heart left by the death of her father. Fredrick a well mannered striking young man comes into her life to take away all the hurt and pain she feels in her heart. Unfortunately, Fredrick plans to be more than just friends become side tracked when he joins the Marine Corp. He leaves her to deal with the hurt all alone. Kim leaves her hometown to attend a prestigious college when she experiences yet another tragic ordeal which further diminishes her hopes of ever becoming the person she once was. Her mother and friends all try to support her yet the tragic events surrounding her life seems to swallow her whole. She finally decides to take control over her own life after vowing to never be hurt again. Her decision to take control of her own life whines up costing her more then anyone could have ever imagined.

About the Author

I was born March 1st in Fort Myers, Florida. I grew up in the small town called Charleston Park with a predominately African American population of approximately 100 people. I grew up in a single parent home with my mother and 11 siblings. I currently reside in Lehigh Acres, Florida with my husband and three children. I attended Lee County Public schools and graduated with my high school diploma. My name is Larouna Pinckney-Maybin. I was known as a quiet shy student. I developed a love for the sport of Basketball, Track and Art. Nearing the end of my high school career I discovered I had no ambitions and no clue as to what I was going to do with my life. On the day of graduation I walked across the stage to receive my high school diploma and inconceivable to me a scholarship to attend college. There I was influence to think about education as a part of my future. As the school guidance counselor (Mrs. Saldaina) leaned in to embrace me with a hug she whispered in my ear; “I believe in you” as she handed me my scholarship. I didn’t know why or if she said this to every student that day but it meant something to me and it changed my life forever. I knew I wanted to be like her and return the favor of touching the lives of students. Being born in raised in a large family by a single mother in Florida has taught me valuable life lessons. In life I don’t have much time for second chances or to get things right. Throughout life the nurturing environment and exposures that I have encountered with Christ, family, friends, and educational professionals have inspired me to become who I am today. These are the reasons that the life I have called my own has meaning.
