Form and Function I took clay and water, from abundant earth, and with hands, created a bowl. I caressed mud with shaping hands, judged it with critical eye and inventive form and function. I was godlike to that bowl, but I did not create neither mud nor water. I gave it shape, but not mind or thought. I measured its size and profile, but could not measure its worth. I controlled its growth, but could not change it’s containing way. I could not teach it nor learn from it. It was an earthen bowl, not a heavenly silhouetted child. Yet in bowl production, I see similarities to a child. I can help create, shape, caress and judge. I can give God form and function. I can help grow self esteem and value. I can teach to and learn from a child. I can help nurture and control growth of a child. I, however, especially must not misuse, misplace or destroy a child. That is a certainty. Somewhere Roads She held my hand in overflowing traffic, guided me through risky maze, and like a dream, disappeared too soon, letting cobblestones crush my shy remains. To somewhere roads are dangerous without a helping hand, without some one who loves well. To nowhere roads are endless soul eating conduits to hell. Oh how I wish her here again with soft white hands seemingly so frail. Her will was strong enough to make me brave and gentle enough to share. I wish I hadn’t treated her like a dream, but a wonderful reality. She wished only reflecting love. I wish her here again to cross roads forever together.

I seek truth. It reveals slowly. I grow with time. A forest grows slowly. I walk a path. I will not waver. I challenge self. I move with ease. I learn to crawl. I learn to walk. Through forest I stroll. My shadow is long. My pace slows. I see tree edge. Leaves are turning golden. They fall at my feet. My ideas are fading. My motivation is lost. I singularly commit. I quietly remain. I whisper like a breeze. I don’t mind falling. I drift instead. In leaves I rest. I have no shadow.

Phillip D. Reisner has a unique perspective on the world from many years of extroverted living and introverted thinking. He is a mixer of observation and thought, a blender of inductive and deductive reasoning, and a baker of humanitarian bread.
