About the Book

This holistic parenting book is aligned with current research and with the shifts that are apparent today in support of healthier living, a greener planet, and a peaceful world. It not only honors children's individuality and wholeness; it is filled with safe, effective, and reliable facts and holistic parenting tools that honor all aspects of children's being: their physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and energetic bodies. This easy-to-read guidebook also has step-by-step, do-able practices that can be used immediately to strengthen overall family relationships so that parents and kids can settle into an open, flowing, and more loving space with each other.

In AD/HD Generation, Dr. Lopez Zuniga challenges modern society's medical approach to children's functioning, proposing that its heavy reliance on intrusive drugs is both insufficient and dangerous for developing youngsters. Given the risks of stimulants and other prescription drugs, it is time to recognize the value of a holistic approach that includes a nurturing parent-child relationship, healthy lifestyle choices, and full support for children to grow into well-balanced adults.

AD/HD Generation: Holistic Ways to Support Children is an incredible fact-filled, comprehensive, easy to read guidebook and resource that you can use over and over again in support of your parenting and your children.

About the Author

Cecilia L. Lopez Zúñiga, Ph.D., is an author, teacher, counselor, and spiritual life coach. She is a Board Certified Professional Counselor and a Nationally Certified School Psychologist with an advanced degree in Educational Psychology. She wrote "AD/HD Generation: Holistic Ways to Support Children" to address personal concerns about the millions of children diagnosed with disorders and prescribed powerful drugs, and parents’ concerns about the risks of their children’s prescriptions. For years as a School Psychologist in the public schools, she watched as kids lined up outside the nurse’s office to get their prescription medications for various diagnoses during their lunch periods. “I simply cannot believe that all of these children have body malfunctions or imbalances that require a psychiatric diagnosis and psychotropic medications to manage, or that there are not other, less intrusive and valid options available for them,” she says. Dr. Zúñiga also spent hours meeting with parents who were looking for answers to their children’s wellness that did not involve “drugs.” Realizing that the information about options is confusing and often misleading, Dr. Zúñiga decided to write a booklet to support parents in their searching and to provide them with the kinds of parenting tools they were seeking. The booklet evolved into a 10-year, 400-page project that challenges society’s approach to children’s wellness and takes a more comprehensive look at holistic options and tools for general health and parenting. Dr. Zúñiga explains, “The model of holistic parenting that I propose goes beyond what you may be familiar with already. I expand this model to include not only the physical, mental and emotional, but the spiritual and energetic aspects of being as well.” One hundred pages of the original manuscript were ultimately turned into a separate book, "The AD/HD Generation Companion Book." This Companion Book goes into detail about the controversies surrounding the AD/HD diagnoses, cause, and treatment approaches for those who are interested. In addition to her professional training, Dr. Zúñiga lives organically and holistically, and has relied on naturopathic health care for decades. She not only advocates living in a way that nurtures all five aspects of being, but she lives it. She says, "The body works as a total package including the systems of the physical body, the mind, the emotions, the spirit, and the energetic Being. When any one of these systems is out of balance, signs of 'distress' will show up." She believes that nurturing and nourishing all five aspects of being is key to creating balance and happiness in life. She is committed to supporting people in connecting with their wholeness, so that they can thrive and fully express their uniqueness in the world. Dr. Zúñiga lives in the Village of Wimberley, a small town in the foothills of the Texas Hill Country, with her partner, two cats, and dog. She has enjoyed it's beautiful rivers; oak, cedar, and cypress trees; wildlife; arts; and genuine old fashioned community life style for nearly 14 years. Wimberley is a quaint and quiet place where folks can decompress from stress, reconnect with their "center," and remember what is truly important. It provides a perfect setting for her to write, teach Kundalini Yoga, and offer counseling and spiritual life coaching to those seeking support in their own lives.
