About the Book

Lin Shu as a Chinese translator, though initiating Chinese translation undertakings in the period of late Qing and early Republic in China, has been a very controversial figure owing to his conservative political attitude and his unusual translation approach. In this new book, Dr Wanlong Gao re-evaluate Lin Shu’s translation from a cultural perspective and confirm his great contribution to Chinese translation.

About the Author

Wanlong Gao, B.A., M.A., Ph.D (Griffith), is Professor of the School of Foreign Languages at Taizhou University, China. He is the author of Love and Marriage, Feminism, Novelists (2009) as well as the translator of several English books, literary, critical and biographical. He has ever studied and taught at some universities in China, Britain and Australia. He is a full member and translator of New Zealand Society of Translation and Interpretation. Now he resides in Auckland, New Zealand and Taizhou,China.
