About the Book

Dr. Raymond Earnshaw, commonly known as Ernie, became a veterinary surgeon after five years attendance at the Veterinary College of Ireland located in Dublin. His story recounts many amusing events of this experience. He later joined a large practice in Reading, England. The work was mainly country and farm work for four years, after which he set up his own office in Wiltshire. His interesting cases are not gruesome and are told in a humorous and informative way. At age 33 he left U.K. for America then took a prolonged holiday which included deep sea fishing, farming, resort employment and finally touring across the U.S. and meeting old friends and other veterinarians. This culminated in a visit to Ontario where one of his previous nurses, June Wallis flew out to MacDonald's Corners. They were married in 1954.

Next it was across the continent by car to reach Sardis in B.C. and stay with Uncle Fred, who had emigrated from Ireland in 1922.

After passing local examinations he set up practice in Penticton where the now growing family stayed for nine years. He tells many amusing anecdotes about the people and his experiences in the Okanagan.

The next move was to North Vancouver where he settled into small animal practice which grew to two main hospitals and an out-patient clinic. He retired in 1989 and now resides in Ladner, B.C. with his second wife, Marilyn.
