About the Author

Writing from a place of profound understanding, Lisa Shover addresses the deepest grief that comes from the loss of a family pet.

Lisa Shover

  • Caregiver to her own "family" that has included horses, miniature white burros, dogs, birds, fish, turtles, hamsters, mice and a pig. Lisa's first word was "horse" and from that day she has moved through every imaginable stage of connection with her beloved, four-legged animal friends.
  • Friend and counselor to friends, family and acquaintances experiencing the emotions realized during PetLoss. Her advice and support has been credited with "helping make a very bad time better."
  • Advocate for the rights and humane treatment all companion animals deserve. She created sweeping change in animal protection through public education and Arizona's legislative process.
  • Board Chairman for four years of one of the largest and most successful animal organizations in the United States, the Arizona Humane Society, where she headed the effort to fund and build a 20-acre facility for education, adoption and animal wellness.

Born in Indiana and raised in Arizona, Lisa received a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from the University of Arizona. An entrepreneur at age 27, she started her own successful public relations and marketing firm. Since then, Lisa has become a recognized community philanthropist raising millions of dollars for nonprofit organizations serving animals, women and children and the most needy in her community.

Lisa and her husband Jerry make their home with three Siberian Huskies and seven Arabian horses.
