About the Book
Ally, a black lab golden retriever mix, was taken from an animal shelter the day before she was to be euthanized to become a service dog for Maureen, a totally blind quadriplegic.
The book tells, through beautiful illustrations and text, what a typical day is like for Ally. Told in the first person, Ally teaches children all the tasks that she does to assist Maureen. Children will learn about teamwork, disability and capability of both the dog and master in this unique book, which will inspire both young and old readers.
About the Author
Maureen Pranghofer is a totally blind quadriplegic who is an author, songwriter and speaker. Born with a rare bone disease and legally blind, Maureen grew up in rural Minnesota. She was further disabled after 2 separate accidents in the 1990's left her a totally blind quadriplegic. Despite this she has written the words and music for 2 CD's, speaks to groups of all kinds about disability, and is an avid reader and Scrabble player. She lives with her husband, Paul (who was born with an underdeveloped leg and no arms) and Ally, her beloved service dog. Ally's Busy Day: The Story of a Service Dog is her first book.
