About the Book

The entire community of fairy tale families is in hiding. There has been no 'happily ever after' for the community since the day the Grimm brothers started spreading lies and the families discovered that their real lives were changing with each inaccurate re-telling. Total secrecy is deemed necessary by Disappearing, Inc., the relocation company in charge of protecting the families from the threat of the Re-Writers and they have placed Faye Goodley, former fairy godmother, in charge of the children.

Any classroom presents a challenge. Miss Goodley understands why Sleeping Beauty's daughter is not allowed sleepovers and sees how worried Rapunzel's mother is when Leticia's hair won't grow, but the real problems surface when Gilda Locke begins to bully Cinderella's shy daughter, Ash-Lee. When her students do nothing to stop the escalating cruelty and even kind Blanche, Snow White's daughter, won't defend Ash-Lee, Miss Goodley steps in. She guides the children to realize that gossip, rumour and exclusion are as much the tools of a bully as physical aggression and her students eventually understand that they have both the responsibility and the power to take them away.

The students are ready to put their anti-bullying strategies into practice when they receive the shocking news that Ash-Lee has run away. Her disappearance is not just a threat to herself - she has jeopardized the security of the entire Community by breaching the secure pathways set up by Disappearing, Inc. Everyone must work together to find her before the Re-Writers find them!

Sally Maidens lives with her adoring husband, brilliant children and yappy dogs on Vancouver Island. She knows firsthand the joys and challenges of teaching. She often wishes for a magic wand, but has settled for an M.Ed. and sense of humour.
