About the Book

A condemnation of the theorists who had the ear of policy makers to the detriment of those in need of help/care. The indifference on the part of Politicians and their love of the system, which was, and still is a shield for those who knew too little or nothing about work thus allowing them to pass the responsibility to others - scape goats. The establishment of Residental Care courses with tutors who had little or no idea about the work, bound by Home Office directives, from those who knew even less. Courses where a few students did have some experience and caused tutors to realise that flower arranging was not an appropriate subject for dealing with Juvenile Delinquents, or the more Borstal material. Tutors who built the next course on what they learned from the current one. Mixing hard won fact with psychological fiction using dangerous brain washing methods, which caused such mental confusion in students, that some could not come to terms with what they knew and had experienced, and what they had been taught and resulted in them having to work extra hard just to get back to the standard of competence they had before they went on the course.

About the Author

I was born in a place called Seaforth, near Liverpool, part of Greater Merseyside now. The Great Depression was just starting, my dad was a Farrier/Blacksmith, when I look back I wonder how my mother managed to heed herself, him, and three children. I had rickets when I was little and was sent to a convalescent Home, at St Anne's on the Sea for three weeks. Due to the War my education was shattered, when it ended I just had to take any work that was available.

I like traditional Folk Music, Ballads, Sea Shanties, my love of this music was started by a singer named Paul Robson, and what were then called Nego Spirituals, I also like the Bagpipes and Highland dancing. My sports were mountaineering, Rock Climbing and Canoeing, I worked in Outdoor Pursuits through this I worked a lot with Children/young people. I realized working with this age group as what I wanted to do. I went on a course for Residental Social Work and got a certificate, I worked in Senior and Junior Approved Schools from there I went to Staff Training and then into Residential Home Management, where I stayed until I retired.
