About the Book

This collection of articles presents an outlook on matters of importance to CARICOM. The papers show that the interests of the Community need to take account of other interests—not all favouring us. The Community can only trust its own resources. Others may help us to meet the challenges ahead, and that is welcome, but we cannot always afford the price. The provenance of the issues varies. There are problems which affect relationships between Member States and non-Member States; there are also problems which affect relationships between Member States. Some of the disputes have colonial origins; some are of our own making. One way or another, the Community has to find the means to solve these problems. Fortunately, it can. It has already found answers to many questions relating to the survival and prosperity of its people and will, of course, continue its quest.
