THE CHRISTIAN YOUTH AND THE JOURNEY OF MARRIAGE Life on earth is full of everything one can think of or mention both good and evil. It is sweet to some and better to others. It treats some with respect and honour while others with regret and contempt. Life is not stagnant but grows in stages. Nothing in life seem to be permanent except change. Nature has made it that there is a time for everything according to the book of Ecclesiastics chapter three from verse one, it says that there is a time for one to be born and a time to die. A time to laugh and a time to cry, a time to take decisions and a time to implement them. A time to plant and a time to harvest what is planted. A time for joy and a time for pain. There is always a time to grow from one stage to another, and no one stays at the same stage forever. Due to this, there is need to plan and work hard towards improving today for tomorrow. To achieve this natural law and order of maintaining the family lineage, marriage plays a very important role in uniting and making that dream come to pass. Everyone is struggling to marry especially those who are singles. They are crying in pain and waiting in anticipation for an avenue to get married as quickly as possible. But many who are married are regretting getting involved with the type of persons they married, while some of those who are married are enjoying their homes as having heaven on earth. When on is born into this world irrespective of the family background, culture, tribe or religion as a boy or girl, they learn to grow with a mind-set that one day, they shall leave their parents and start their own family with the best man or woman they want to marry in life. Procreation and continuation of linages seem to be one of the things that people want and struggle to meet up with. When a young man has finished school or learnt a job, one desire that starts ringing in his or her mind is the issue of marriage. Many young men may not be ready for marriage when people or parents starts to disturb them about getting married especially if the child is the first issue and the parents are getting old and demanding for grandchildren. Young men are advised to choose the person they want to marry themselves. But in some cultures, it is the parents that chooses the partner for their children. Some examples are found in the scriptures. Marriage is a gift from God and he determines who we get married to. It is he who ordained and permitted it to be fulfilled by men. It is good that every Christian tries to discover what Gods will is for him or her. Anyone who anticipates to marry intends to have a lifelong relationship. They hope to become committed to loving each other, living together, and helping and supporting each other. Both partners dreams to decide on how to share roles and responsibilities in their lives. This is usually a dream that does not come to pass in many married homes. There are so many reasons why such a dram is not achieve among some young couples. Truthfully, Marriage partners require characteristics such as friendship, shared values, similar interests and goals, mutual support, loyalty, sexual attraction, and ability to adjust and solve the problems together. Efforts are also required to be put to make the marriage work. In Nigeria, the legal age for marriage is 18 years. Many depending on their culture, family background and life challenges marry earlier or later than this age. When one marries earlier than his or her right age and maturity, it can affect one’s future health and life plans especially if it is a girl who becomes pregnant before marriage approval due to the body system is not yet matured to handle the introduction of a foetus. In some other instances, Marriage as they say is not for boys and girls but for matured youths and men who have grown to become men in both reasoning and responsibility. Marriage comes with a lot of challenges and responsibility. One does not need to enter into marriage as a force rather it should be entered with clarity of mind. Height of a friend, external appearance of a person should not be the most important push for one to enter into a marriage relationship. Continued commitment, love sharing and caring for each other helps marriages survive. First time love marriages or quick arranged marriages do not give much time for the preparation and foundation laying for the success of the relationship. This is not ideal for children of God because God who made marriage made it to be enjoyed not to be endured.
