About the Book

This book will give any parent and child an insight to the basics and what to expect at their first practice in flag football. Its illustrations show a step-by-step process on how the center snaps the football, how the QB hands the ball off to the running back, how the running back takes a handoff, and the importance of pulling flags in this sport. It also explains the difference between a defense and an offense and basic positions on each side of the ball, the importance of stretching, and staying hydrated. The book also touches base on what equipment they will need or be given and what clothing to wear in certain climates, team involvement, team cheer, and most importantly, that it is fun to play flag football. The intent of this book is to give the parent and the child some insight to the world of flag football at a young age, as well as an opportunity to practice some positional skills before the child joins and even while the child is presently playing at a younger age level.

About the Author

Hi, I am a husband, father, grandfather, and foster dad. I have been volunteering my time to coach children in football since 1989. Most recently my grandson joined the ranks of the family tradition to play football. He started by signing up for a program called mini-tykes flag football. I volunteered to help my oldest son coach his son’s flag football team. What I observed was that not only are the children new to this but so are most parents. When I researched age appropriate teaching tools for this age group, five to seven years of age, I discovered that everything out there was geared toward the older children. So inspired by my children and my grandson’s will to learn, I developed this children's storybook narrated through the eyes of a child explaining his experience and the teachings on the basic fundamentals of how the game is played and what a team sport is like. I hope your children—as well as you as parents—will enjoy reading this book together, as well as practicing the basic fundamental positions and movements together.
