The HVAC & R Hands-On Troubleshooting book, has been written with the idea of given the service technician an image of what could be performed to accomplish a faster and more economical way of completing our every day job. The book is designed in two main parts (1) & (2). (1) Four segments: (2) Two segments: 1. Introduction. 1. Experiences “B” 2. A refrigeration experience. 2. Other experiences. 3. How my interest for refrigeration started. 4. Experiences “A” Experiences “A, contains: 1. The customer or equipment’s person in charge complaint. From them, we can obtain information about what they feel the problem may be, as well as the same history. 2. The equipment’s mechanical-electrical characteristics. System configuration. Actual operating conditions: Pressures – Temperature – Etc. readings. Experiences “B”, contains: 1. After examining the collected Part information, the analysis of all facts is performed: The customer complaint may guide us to the exact problem or simply give us an idea. His/hers story help us to avoid wasting time-money in doing something that was done before. If the equipment is working or not, make us use a different set of procedures. Some times the configuration of the system, may guide us to solve the problem. The actual operating (pressures – temperatures – Etc.) readings, tell us what the system/component is doing; here, we can compare with what the system-component is supposed to do. With the obtained information, we may carry out, and by using the proper procedures/ tools return the equipment to normal operation and to solve the problem. Sometimes is required, to perform calculations or follow certain types of recommendations to accomplish a perfect system’s work. 2. Here, some other experiences not requiring the same analysis followed by the rest of experiences.

About the Book
By the time I decided to start writing this book, I had worked in the HVAC & R industry for more than forty-five years. In this span of time, I had worked as a service technician in an NYC service company and as a trade instructor in several schools (see profile). I had written books and works; among them are RAC & E test-books, preparation for the EPAs certification, and the RMO's License for the NYC Fire Department, which had been used in the schools in which I worked. Regardless of the years that had passed, the refrigeration system used in Air Conditioning, systems as well as in Commercial Refrigeration, Domestic Refrigeration, etc., and in the equipment in general used today contains the same mechanical-electrical components as then.
About the Author
JOSE C. JIMENEZ was born in Bogota, Colombia, in South America. He began his HVAC & R and electrical working and teaching career in his country in 1958 while serving in the Colombian navy and continued it in the United States. Here he has worked as a service technician. He was instructor-director in several trade schools (National Skills Center, Technical Trade School Inc., GM Tech Inc., NY La Guardia Community College, HVAC Tech Inc. School, Refrigeration Institute, etc.) He has written varied HVACR and electrical textbooks, which had been used in several of these schools, as well as preparation for EPA certification, and NYC Fire Department RMO licensing. He has been affiliated with organizations such as ASHRAE, RSES, and NATE. He has an Associate Degree in Applied Sciences in Environmental Control Technology.
