The squeaky bone was just out of my reach. I stretched my paw through the pen’s bars and reached as far as I could. Just a little further! I thought, reaching as far as I could…success! I heard the familiar squeak as my paw pushed it against the concrete floor and I pulled it through the bars and scooped it up in my mouth. It squeaked again and I sighed happily. Nothing is better than the sound of your favorite squeaky bone, well almost nothing. I imagined finding my forever home would be better, but here, at the shelter, nothing was better than my squeaky bone. I heard another sound and I jumped to my feet and wagged my tail. I had heard that sound a million times – it was the shelter door opening, and any second now I would see shoes.

About the Book
There’s no place like home, and no one knew this better than Jasmine. After each long and lonely day in the animal shelter, home was all Jasmine could think about. Though many pet seekers were intimidated when they heard she was part pit bull, Jasmine never gave up hope that someone special would come along and that she would find a forever home.
About the Author
Mildred Potash was born in Brooklyn, New York. She has always been an animal lover. Her very first pets were two rats, and during her life, she has enjoyed the companionship of hamsters, guinea pigs, two ferrets, a cat, and dogs. Mildred is an outspoken advocate for animal rights. She lives with her four new adopted rescued dogs, Tsunami, Hazel, Jasmine, and Sinatra; her guinea pig, Pumpkin; and her pet rats.
