About the Book

When a bus company decided to build their corporate headquarters in Olean, New York, photographer Les Howard turned the construction into a creation. Transitional Photographs of One Blue Bird Square Olean, New York is a similar project Mr. Howard has worked on for the past twenty-nine years. A Blue Bird Bus Company decided to build its corporate office in Olean and Mr. Howard documented the event from a bare lot to a grand opening. Out of 2590 photographs 792 slides were converted to digital images to use for his book. Mr. Howard is fascinated with the idea of telling a story with numbered photographs and captions. The complete story from ground breaking, excavating to building of forms to pouring concrete through a series of detailed images that stir the imagination as each turned page further develops the building into a character of its very own. Watch the story grow with the help of photography of an erecting structure that takes a life of its own. Les Howard first found inspiration through photography in school. He liked the idea of taking a series of pictures in sequence to tell a story from start to finish. His first serious idea began with a college art project in which he took black and white pictures of the Sound Factory being dismantled. His photos in sequence earned him an A.
