About the Book

Personal history—a story from the life of Harriet McDonald, told in the traditional St’át’imcets (Lillooet language) of British Columbia. The story is set in and around the community of Ts’kw’aylaxw, also known as Pavilion Indian Band. Ts’kw’aylaxw is located in the south central interior of British Columbia, approximately forty kilometers northwest of Lillooet and seventy kilometers west of Cache Creek. The story is told from the perspective of a proud mother and grandmother. The book is beautifully illustrated by Luther Brigman, a member of the T’it’q’et (a.k.a. Lillooet Indian Band) community of the St’át’imc Nation.


About the Author

Harriet was born at Ts’kw’áylacw in 1934. Welemátkwa7, her ancestral name means twirling water. Harriet is the daughter of Camille Jack Edwards and Celestine Bob [Tí7na]. She passes on what she learned about St’át’imc way of life to her children and grandchildren. Harriet attended St. Mary’s Residential School,Mission, BC.
