About the Author

Willie J. Ford is a sometime writer and a full time nurse at the Milwaukee, Wisconsin Veterans Hospital. He wishes to commend the fine and very professional staff there and nurses every where. The author emerged into a nursing career not from a lifelong yearning to serve that segment oh the healthcare field but in self defense. Originally he worked at an automobile parts supply factory in Milwaukee fir 15 years. During that time he was laid off approximately 12 times. Employment rising and falling with the economy until his job ended suddenly and permanently at the end of 1989. He hoped to restart his working life in a career that offered stability, peace of mind and a sense of service. He started to listen to his Mom’s advice to return to school and as fate would have it she was a nurse. “go to school” she reasoned “ There’s a nursing shortage and your services will always be in demand.” It’s been 14 years since graduating as an LPN and his career still offers an opportunity to stay employed and if wanted or needed to seek the opportunity for advancement in the nursing field through further education.
