About the Book

Here's your chance to join Barry and Suzanne Maughan as they explore the Pacific Northwest seeking out the unusual and the offbeat and generally finding both. So climb aboard "Bridget" their truck camper. They're breaking camp and there's always room for one more! Here's a sampling of what they've found: "You say you like salmon? Not only were there mounds of frozen fillets, there were countless jars of preserved salmon, each in its own mason jar and carefully documented as to where and when the fish was caught." "Hold on there. I know what you're thinking what with all these untold thousands of Elvis impersonators running around hither and yon ripping off the King. With all that firmly in hand, I have no hesiation in telling you that this had to be Elvis, no doubts whatsoever." "At this point you might as well be asking the same question I was pondering: what's the general route these salmon have to take to get home."

About the Author

Barry Maughan’s been a writer, journalist and international broadcaster for more the thirty years. So he’s a past master at separating the unusual and the offbeat from the obvious and mundane. And he’s not averse to injecting his own brand of humor as well. Suzanne has shared her husband’s wanderlust and joy in exploring new and interesting places throughout their more than forty years of married life. Stops along the way have included assignments in Ethiopia and New Zealand. In Ethiopia, Barry worked as a radio broadcaster and reporter form the Christian broadcasting station, radio Voice of the Gospel. At the same time, he was a freelance correspondent and reporter for several international news organizations, including The Financial Times of London, United Press International, the Voice of America, Radio New Zealand and To The Point magazine. More recently, Barry has turned his talents to writing articles for the Escapees magazine. Since their retirement, Barry and his wife have spent a great deal of time traveling full time aboard Bridget, their large fully equipped truck camper. They weren’t accustomed to such luxurious living when, in the late 1960s, the y began their caravanning experience by driving their Volkswagen camper throughout Europe and ultimately over land from Alexandria, Egypt, to Cape Town, South Africa. In April 2007 they wrapped up a year long circumnavigation of Australia—a journey which took them more than sixteen thousand miles through Barry’s homeland in 1995 Winnebago Mitsubishi Canter motor home. And don’t let that “n” on the end of he Maughan surname fool you. Barry’s the proud great nephew of the acclaimed British author, W. Somerset Maugham. But as Barry puts it, “Willie wouldn’t have known me from a bar of soap!” Barry is a graduate of the Columbia School of Radio/TV Broadcasting in Boston and holds a B.A. in Journalism/Advertising form Boston University and an M.A. in journalism/ Management form Oklahoma State University.
