About the Book

Mr. Hague constantly reminded his students to think carefully before making a decision. Some students appeared to be attentive to his suggestion, others resisted his advice, and a few were neutral.

An AIDS assembly, sponsored by the State Education Department provided Mr. Hague an opportunity to reinforce his advice on decision making concerning sex. The assembly presenters discussed sexually transmitted diseases in graphic terms. A class discussion following the assembly indicated that a number of students were happy they attended the assembly, others continued to believe adults only get AIDS, and the remainder of the class appeared to be totally confused.

At a later time Mr. Hague was totally shocked and disappointed when he learned about the decision one of his high-honor students made concerning her prom date.

About the Author

Mr. Heagerty graduated from New York State Teachers College at Oswego, N.Y. At a later time he received a M.S. from the same institution. Heagerty taught in New York State public school for a period of 48 years.

During the last 30 years he taught U.S. History and Government to high school students and was eventually promoted to the position of Department Chairperson. Additional graduate courses led to his becoming a certified District Supervisor. During his teaching career, Mr. Heagerty observed that high school students have few opportunities to make decisions.

At various times he provided his students with assignments that required them to make decisions in order to complete their tasks. Heagerty learned that students in school and in outside school activities make decisions resulting in serious consequences.
