Shahzad Najmuddin came to our world for a brief visit. In his short life he brought joy to those who knew him and offered succour to many who were in need. Most things came easily to Shahzad. In college he played hockey and cricket and could have with relative ease made the national team in the former sport. It is said he treated the opportunity casually, choosing rather to make way for a friend.

Writing was his passion; he lived by
Alexander Pope's dictum:

"True ease in writing comes from Art, not chance,
As those move easiest who have learned to dance".

He lived life with indefatigable zest. When the young lion...Zaigham...strode down the sidewalks of Hyde Park in Chicago there was not a woman in sight who was not in some way in love with him.

When the Angel came, he was not prepared. In his last days he emulated the words of his favourite poet, the bard of Wales:

"Do not go gentle into that good night,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light".
