About the Book

Most people who come into my office do not understand that the problems that they present to me originate with inner conflict. They believe sincerely (but mistakenly) their problems are the result of external causes. If they persevere in their healing work, they soon come to realize that healing is an "inside" job.

Most of us live with too much fear. This fear is manifested in a dizzying array of personal difficulties and problems, emotional states such as depression or anxiety, relationship breakdowns and unwanted physical symptoms. This book is dedicated to the process of healing the fear within you. It is based upon three beliefs: i) How you experience everything in life is not determined by any external agents or circumstances. It is determined by the state of consciousness you are in, ii) Your "normal" state of consciousness is fear-based and survival-oriented, which I call the aggressive/defensive ego. This consciousness perpetuates an extremely dark vision of reality and hardship for you and others.; and iii) There are other states of consciousness within you - a child consciousness and a spiritual consciousness. If you can access them they will offer you an entirely different way of interpreting and experiencing your reality.

By healing your ego (fear) consciousness and developing a harmonious and supportive "Inner Family", you can experience and bring to others a far greater and more enduring peace, health and love.

Both David and Claudette had become acquainted with the workings of their own aggressive/defensive ego (fear) consciousnesses. They had watched as its cherished set of judgments, opinions, and beliefs lay in tatters... With the memory of the love they had once shared, they could begin the process of bringing their broken, yet considerably more authentic selves to each other to be known and healed. Each had been wrong about a great many things. They were now choosing to give themselves over to a qualitatively deeper and more enduring love than any they had ever known. (from Chapter III)
