About the Book

Holding my Breath to keep the love inside is a book of love poetry for the twenty-first century. The poems evoke the passion and possibility, fear and desire, pleasure, pain and brutality of modern relationships in a post-romantic age.

The poems bare the heart of love itself, exploring love as a passage from innocence to loss; love as a fairytale, a fiction we create for ourselves; love as an unrequited passion, an obsession; love as a belief, as something we choose to have faith in or not; but most of all what comes shining through is love as eternal hope.

The raw passion in these poems of love and loss makes this collection both compelling and poignant. It takes us on a journey from the darkest moments of utter desperation at the end of love, to the highest pinnacles of desire and ecstasy when new love is found. It is a beautiful and unforgettable look at loving and being loved.

About the Author

Cat Walker is thirty-something and has been writing poetry since she was knee-height to the proverbial grasshopper.

Cat has been inspired by Mary Dorcey the Irish poet, Mimi Khalvati's Poetry School classes, and Barry MacSweeney whose first book of poetry she bought from North Yorkshire County Library for 20p when she was 7.

Cat is overly-romantic, passionate about true meaning in life and love, and a terrible cook.

She is concerned with the seemingly unending complexity of that most simple and basic of human necessities: loving and being loved.

Born and bred in Scarborough, North Yorkshire, she has lived in London, Ballydehob and Melbourne while putting together this collection. She has one cat, Oscar.

Cat is currently writing her first novel.
