It’s Over

Chapter 1 Another day in this filth ridden apartment on Milwaukee’s north side, and as I wake I am accompanied by the familiar feeling of a great hangover. My eyes are stuck together with a glue like substance, my throat is as dry as sandpaper, and my right shoulder is in some serious agony. I love the half inflated air mattress I awake upon and realize I have been sleeping on my right shoulder over a nice cold hard wood floor. As I muster the energy to roll off the mattress and unto the floor I smell the fragrance of a hard night, rather hard living lifestyle with not much to offer. I am sure many of you reading this know what I am talking about. That stale smell of cigarette smoke and beer mixed along with the scent of ones own urine and body odor. Yes isn’t life just grand! I gain my footing and am shocked at the damage done to not only myself but the entire apartment. Beer cans litter the ground like grass, cigarette butts in bowls of half eaten pasta, just a nice array of total annihilation. I need some serious water as my throat is like a dry desert and my head begins to let me know of the circulation process. The apartment I should also describe probably in a little detail before I go further to paint a better image to you. It is a kitchen on the right side of the domicile and my bedroom and living room on the left with a shared bathroom in the hallway with another housemate. The floors are all hardwood with a nice high ceiling I believe it is in the style of some Victorian but I am uncertain. In the kitchen there is a full fridge and stove both of which often are not working or I have to go and jiggle the plug-ins risking electrocution to see if I can get them to work. The sink is one of those old school cast iron outfits I believe very old and very used, along with some rickety cabinets. The kitchen is where I believe a lot of the roaches seem to make their mass entrance into my place. I also often find them in my bedroom portion of the place and try to extinguish their lives as quickly as possible but realize damn they are quick. The place is quite a dump nothing seems to work all the time at the same time and the noise in the neighborhood, whether it is crack heads or sirens or the occasional gun shot would make any place a total dive. Now that the setting in which this initial orientation has been somewhat described I will get back to my pounding unbelievable headache and other morning tasks.
