Chapter One: Part 1
Did you ever think about why we are here? Have you ever asked yourself what is our main purpose in life? There have been many nights that I have lay in my bed and wondered and asked myself this question. What is the purpose of our existence? If we all knew this I guess life would be too easy and it would become too simple.
So far I do not think that I have much to complain about. I have a mother and father who love me, I have my best friend Sasha who is now legally my sister. I'll explain to you why as quick as possible, because it is a long story and we would be here forever. Long story short; her parents took off on her out of the blue and left her. My parents fought really hard to be her legal guardians.
This makes the both of us legally sisters and we always will be. Nobody messes with her. My name is Tannis Schroeder I am 13 years old and live in a small town called Spruce Dale. It is a pretty big enough city it has four malls and a movie theater, a very nice boardwalk that you can go walk up and down, and then take a nice dip in the lake.
Unfortunately though we will not be living here for too much longer, we are moving before the end of summer, just before school starts. We are moving to a town called Hawthorn which is about 6 hours away from Spruce Dale. It was very difficult for me to tell all of my friends that we are moving. I have cried enough tears over this over the past few days, I am officially cried out.
You are probably curious about where I am moving? As far as I know Hawthorn is in Canada it is in the province of Ontario and is right smack dab in the middle of nowhere.
The main reason people move there is because of the work, the money is good and a good man like my dad can support his family. He now works for a construction company called Cam-Tar Construction; he got a big promotion to be a foreman.
It is the main reason he was hired, there is a very big highway project, which is going to connect all the way up to Gatineau. My dad is going to be in charge of the whole project, so this means I will not be seeing very much of him for the next few years. This is something I have gotten use too though, he is always gone and it is just me and my mother and Sasha
I am not exactly sure how things will go in Hawthorn once we are officially moved there, it’s a small town but to me it will be home. So I will have to make the best of it. The one plus is, is that it is not far from my favourite camp site.
Hawthorn is only two hours by bike from Crystal Lake, so that is definitely going to be great for the summer time. Instead of having to have someone drive us out to the camp site all the time. I think that two hours is much better than having to be in a four hour car ride just to camp for a couple nights.
However something amazing happened over the summer that I totally did not expect. It is something really that does not happen to just everyone so easily. Did you ever think that you would meet your soul mate and know right away?
Sometimes you just get a feeling about something and have to just go with it. I however do believe that it happened to me, it happened the minute that I laid eyes on him; I know this may sound weird and not make much sense but somehow I knew that I was instantly 100% connected with him.
The day that I met him is probably a day I will not ever forget for the rest of my life. Actually now that I think about it; how we met is something out of a cheesy chick flick movie or a romance novel. It was the beginning of summer vacation. Sasha and I kept begging my Mom to bring us camping to Crystal Lake.
However she would not let us go alone so she very much wanted to come with us. Luckily though I was able to convince her that we could take care of ourselves and we were mature enough. I promised her that we would watch out for each other. We both are good swimmers and know how to cook properly.
So I managed to convince her, or maybe it was when Tyler, Sasha’s sort of on again and off again boyfriend who decided to tag along. I guess my Mom figured with a guy with us it won’t be so bad. The car ride down seemed too take forever, it just felt like more than six hours to me. It felt more like twelve; I had to listen to Tyler sing the whole way down. The guy thinks he is good but if you really listened to him.
You would think he has gerbils in his underwear. I simply love camping though it is so much fun. My three favourites seasons are spring, summer and fall. As for winter, I hibernate and do not come out. I do not like being cold, so winter and I do not get along very well.
I’m not exactly what you would call a girly girl, but I am not a tom boy either. I’m in between because I like to dress up also and wear make-up and do girly things. Like go to the mall and go shopping with Sasha all day long.
We don’t buy anything, we window shop and look too see what we might buy in a month or two from now. Then there are times where I like to be a tough and do guy things.
Like camping for example, I’m not afraid to rough it. I don’t mind getting dirty if I have too. I also have taken a self defense class, which every girl in my opinion should do. You never know when a perverted guy is going to try something, so it’s always good to be prepared. I know how to punch and know how to drive a knee where it counts if need be.
