About the Author
Doris Imhof Johnson Doris is the second of the Esther and Robert Imhof children. She lives at rural Abilene, Kansas. After her retirement from teaching gifted children, Doris pursued her hobbies. These are: writing, cooking, traveling, gardening, reading, quilting, antique quests, and best of all spending time with her children and grandchildren. Her roots still take her back frequently to western Kansas where her childhood was spent on the family farm northeast of Brewster. A ‘must read’ is, As I Remember It, a memoir of Esther’s life from birth in 1914 through her high school days. As I Remember It is co-authored by Ray and Doris. Apron Strings and Family Ties is a continuation of the first book. This second book leads you through the trial, tribulation, and joys of Esther’s adult life as a farm wife and mother. There is never a dull moment. Ray Imhof Ray is the youngest and fourth child of Esther and Robert Imhof. Ray lives in Colby, Kansas, which is one of the major trade areas where the family bought necessities as he was growing up. It was with Ray’s encouragement that Esther completed her high school education and graduated with his class. With his nudging Esther also wrote many of the memoirs you’ll read about in this book, as well, as those in As I Remember It. Ray’s hobbies are genealogy, gardening, traveling, reading, photography, bird watching, and volunteering. He is intensely interested in plant study, landscaping, and yard beautification. Every year he adds new plants to his own yard making it a place of adventure and beauty. He has completed the K-State Extension Master Gardener program and each year volunteers many hours helping with horticulture education and beautification by making and maintaining demo gardens in his community. Ray loves cats and shares his home with his black cat, Barnaby.
