About the Book

This book is an examination of the marital lifecycle experiences of African American couples. Face-to-face interviews were conducted with couples who have been married from 33 years to 50 years, and from diverse backgrounds. The couples were asked about their experience as a couple, parenting, launching children into young adulthood, life as a couple again, becoming grandparents, and retirement. Understanding; marital success as describe by the couples in times of strength and challenge provides important insight to loving, and healthy relationships. Their stories revealed several themes: intimacy, communication, commitment, spirituality, parental role models, and education as keys to marital success.
