Before he could open his mouth to speak, the old hag changed suddenly to an elegant, proper hostess and asked the shoemaker to come in. "I know why you're here." She watched him with sly eyes. She lit a little clay bowl of grasses. As the fire started, she stared into the smoke. The room filled and the shoemaker coughed.
"Shoemaker, you have a witch in your house, " she intoned. "You can't see her and you can't figure out how she got there." Pleased with herself, she continued staring into the smoke, "She is beautiful and kind. She has long raven-black hair that curls almost to her hips. Her name is Peree' (Pretty)...Ohhh...I see that you brought a large stump of a tree in to your house. Am I right?"
"Yes, Peree' was cast into the stump long ago by an evil witch's spell." She heckled under her breath. "I see that for the first time, your cottage is clean. The dirty clothes have been was washed and are hanging..."

About the Book
An inspirational story about three old friends and the challenges they overcome. As the three friends set out on a journey to find their fortunes, they must travel all day and into the evening. When he is betrayed by someone close to him, she shows him how to master each of the challenges that are presented to him by the King, with the help of her loving family. Peree' and the Magic Fish is a charming tale of the beauty of true love that illustrates the meaning of goodness and the love of family.
