Salvation/Being Born Again
What in the world is this being born again business and what does it have to do with me going
to heaven when I die?
Origin of Salvation
Salvation (Soteria – deliverance, save, saving) is of the Jews, the Bible declares.
“Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews.”(John
4:22)
Why? The Jews were God’s chosen people and Jesus Christ, the truth, the way and the
resurrection, was Jewish.
“For thou art an holy people unto the Lord thy God: the Lord thy God hath chosen thee to
be a special people unto himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth. Th e
Lord did not set his love upon you, nor choose you, because ye were more in number than
any people; for ye were the fewest of all people: But because the Lord loved you, and because
he would keep the oath which he had sworn unto your fathers, hath the Lord brought
you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you out of the house of bondmen, from the
hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.”(Deuteronomy 7:6-8)
”Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to
Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost. Th en Joseph
her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a publick example, was minded
to put her away privily. But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord
appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee
Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. And she shall bring
forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins.
Now all this was done, that it might be fulfi lled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet,
saying, Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his
name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.”(Matthew 1:18-23)
Christ came unto the Jews and was not received; that made a way for gentiles, as it had
been foretold from the days of the prophets, to be brought into salvation along with Jews
as the chosen of God.
“Behold my servant, whom I uphold; mine elect, in whom my soul delighteth; I have put
my spirit upon him: he shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles. He shall not cry, nor lift up, nor cause
his voice to be heard in the street. A bruised reed shall he not break, and the smoking fl ax shall he not
quench: he shall bring forth judgment unto truth. He shall not fail nor be discouraged, till he have set
judgment in the earth: and the isles shall wait for his law. Th us saith God the Lord, he that created the
heavens, and stretched them out; he that spread forth the earth, and that which cometh out of it; he that
giveth breath unto the people upon it, and spirit to them that walk therein: I the Lord have called thee in
righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for
a light of the Gentiles; To open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit
in darkness out of the prison house. I am the Lord: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another,
neither my praise to graven images.”(Isaiah 42:1-8)
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. Th e
same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was
not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And
the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. Th ere was a man
sent from God, whose name was John. Th e same came for a witness, to bear witness of the
Light, that all men through him might believe. He was not that Light, but was sent to bear
witness of that Light. Th at was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into
the world. He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him
not.”(John 1:10-12)
