About the Book

Jeanne Knight Smith has written a compelling and delightful interactive book for young people that encourages their involvement in making the world a better place for us all. Drawing from her years of experience as an elementary principal, Jeanne Smith provides arenas of activities that young people and their parents can cooperatively explore. Beginning with the closet environment, readers look at their own rooms and their own homes for activities to take responsibility and to share improvements. Next the book highlights broader areas that a young person can effectively improve – from A to Z – with journaling spaces provided for evaluation and planning. Wonderful areas come into the readers’ imaginations as they consider actions ranging from volunteering to take a neighbor’s trash and recycling bins to the curb and back to digging into the backyard for garden plots to start that “green thumb.” Spiritual explorations are gently handled to encourage self-growth and awareness of other friends’ beliefs. Young people and parents will enjoy the uplifting, energizing visions for activism inspired by KIDS CARE! Making a Difference A to Z – especially designed for the best kids in the world who care – like you!

About the Author

Jeanne Knight Smith was born and raised on the east side of Fort Worth, Texas. She grew up in a devoted Christian home and attended local public schools. She received a B.S. from Texas Wesleyan College and a M.Ed. from Texas Christian University. Upon graduation, her teaching career began in Brownsville, Texas but she shortly moved back to teach in Fort Worth as an elementary teacher and later as an instructional specialist. She soon moved from that assignment to assistant principal and later to that of principal. She then went on to open a new elementary school for the system and served as principal there for six years. Throughout her years in school administration, Mrs. Smith was in great demand as a workshop leader and facilitator. Her love for music resulted in numerous music education workshops. In addition, she created the B.R.A.I.N.S. data assessment program that is widely used in schools. Upon retirement from public education, Mrs. Smith felt it was time to give something back. Always one to try and build the self image of a student, she put her technique down on paper in the form of this book. Any youngster that completes the exercises in these pages can not help becoming a more positive and motivated super-successful kid. Any parent that works through the ideas on these pages will come to understand that Kids Care.
