About the Book

The name of the book I am writing is called "The Plight of a Polish Family", which takes place in the 1930's and goes into the 1950's. The story takes place in a small town in Poland where Mary and John, who are in their 30's, live with their two sons, Steve 18, and Donny 16. Mary's parents also live with them, who the boys call Busia and Dziadzi. Rumors are everywhere that Germany is getting ready to invade Poland. Many neighbors have already moved, and others are making plans to move. German soldiers have been seen on the outskirts of town, and the boys have run into two soldiers while sledding. One of the soldiers, who they called "Green Teeth", slapped Donny and also hurt Dziadzi because he didn't answer him fast enough. While spear fishing at lake with their friend, Tommy, they were surprised by Green Teeth, who slapped Tommy to the ground, taking his fish. Steve, holding a six-foot spear, drove the spear into he solder's back. The family takes a ship to America and settles in a Polish neighborhood in Chicago. Donny has a tough time adjusting to school and gets involved with a bad crowd. Steve gets drafted into the Army and is assigned to a forward observation unit. Donny enlists in the Navy and tries out for the frogmen team. Steve fights the Germans, Donny the Japanese.
