An Act of Surrender is a book for anyone who has ever been touched by drug and alcohol addiction, either their own or a loved one’s. The author has distilled and refined the essence of 37 years of his own successful recovery from active addiction and combined it with his professional wisdom gleaned from many years as a pioneer developing and implementing Employee and Family Assistance Programs and workplace addiction education, and intervention projects. Through telling stories of his own addiction and recovery, as well as that of family members, friends, and clients, Jim Stimson describes what it takes to achieve recovery from addiction. He offers a unique perspective because of his own personal journey, and the fact he’s devoted his professional life to helping addicts and their families, as well as workplaces and communities deal with substance abuse. Jim has also done an enormous amount of personal and spiritual work over the years in his search to find his authentic self.
About the Author
Jim Stimson has helped hundreds of people transform their lives from soul-destroying addiction to peace and contentment in recovery. A Registered Social Worker, he has spent more than three decades working in the addictions and recovery field. For two of those decades he ran the Employee and Family Assistance Program for a large international company. Over the years, Jimâ*™s work has been widely acknowledged as heâ*™s received numerous awards and accolades. He is a highly regarded public speaker and workshop facilitator speaking primarily on the topics of addiction and recovery, and the impact of addiction from the workplace/labor perspective. An advocate of 12-step programs, he has supported countless addicts and families find recovery. Jim believes there is always hope for the addict, that recovery requires a spiritual focus and a lot of committed support.
