About the Book
Selena is one out of six daughters in a wealthy family, but while on the surface she may appears to have everything, in truth things couldn't be more different. Selena is considered as somewhat of an odd black sheep since she wasn't genetically blessed as her five beautiful sisters and was considered as ugly, a courtesy reminder of her shallow mother, who only cared for beauty over substance. |Feeling lonely and out of place in her own family, Selena ran away from home one night only to wind up in Marilyn's underground home. Marilyn, as it turned out, was in fact a kind hearted fairy who was only too keen to grant Selena's deepest desire: to be turned into a beautiful girl. But while her heart is in the right place, Marilyn's magical powers were limited and she gave Selena what she wanted so badly under one condition: For the spell to work effectively, Selena had to learn to love and accept herself. But things don't turn out as Selena had hoped for and she finds herself magically transformed into a creature that was not only big, but something not entirely human either....
About the Author
Hoang Thai Lam ( or simply "Thai", as he preferred to be addressed )and his family are from the South of Vietnam who immigrated to Australia during the late 1980's. Like many kids his age, he hated school and he was mostly remembered as the shy, but very quiet, courteous pupil who mostly kept to himself and achieved mediocre results in his report cards. During his school years, he was more interested in performance arts, whether it's drawing or acting but has difficulty in maintaining passable grades due to a neurological condition called Hydrocephalus and so he stayed put until 2001 when the pressure both at home and school became so intense that he morphed into a rebel child by cutting classes and hanging out with the misfits. He became so frustrating to deal with by the teachers who once adored him that after 15 documents were repeatedly filed out listing his failed subjects, he was expelled. Despite being kicked out he still hung onto the desire of finishing his education through community college, but after 4 years of repeated unacceptable behavior he finally called it quits. Work wise, he'd worked in his family's bakery for several years before landing a job at Burger King, working his way up the ladder swinging from Mcdonalds then later Subway, and now back to Mcdonalds again. He later left Mcdonalds and worked for Michel's Pattiserie, a well known cafe styled coffee shop in 2009 and now in his folk's new bakery. After 10 years of pining onto the dream of being a writer he did just that in 2008 and Selena was the first children's book published by Trafford. His second book, Herbert ( the big head) shall be available in late 2010.
